With the pandemic Coronavirus still ravaging the whole world, the New Apostolic Church in Nigeria, has resorted to online services as a way of circumventing the scourge.
In Hebrew 10:25, the Bible enjoins Christians not to forsake “the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Congregating is a fundamental practice among religious worshippers all over the world. During this period, people of like minds, irrespective of their different backgrounds, gather for the celebration of their common faith.
But the outbreak of the coronavirus across the world is inhibiting this norm, at least for now, since large gatherings potentially spell the spread of the virus among hitherto unaffected populace. The pandemic is coming at a critical moment for Christians in Nigeria, just as many others around the world, as they need more engagements in the church to boost their spiritual lives during this Lenten period.
Already, two states in Nigeria, where coronavirus have been reported, Lagos and Ogun states, have swung into action by suspending religious and social gatherings of over 50 persons till further notice as a precautionary measure to curtail the virus from spreading.
On government’s directives that social distance should be maintained to curb the spread of the virus, Apostle Nwanza said: “We shall obey the rule and maintain social distance and comply with the precautionary measures stated by the government. I have given directives to my congregations to the most affected states to maintain no crowded session, but ensure we pray fervently to God for protection and assistance.”
The Apostle also informed members of the church on Friday 20th March 2020 that all divine services will now be held online, as the outbreak of the coronavirus increased drastically over the week.
Most congregations in Lagos District took part in the District Apostle Michael Ehrich’s transmission service all the way from Germany. Attending this divine service on the 22nd of March brought so much joy and hope as the members felt, they were not left alone.
Many families are now looking for ways to get connected to the service, and some have even requested for the opportunity to lodge their offerings into the church account.
