The past three (3) weeks have been very busy for children of almost all the districts of the Apostle Oscar’s west working area. The music usually comes up during the long vacation (usually between the July to August) of schools in Nigeria. And for these children, their Parents and the church, this period serves as opportunity to focus on building the future of our church through positively engaging their talents for the promotion of God’s work. And for the past Eight (8) years the church in collaboration with the Jörg Wolff Foundation (JWF) have this a reality.
The Music Camp originally started in 2016 and ever since have continue to produce young musicians some of whom have also gone to the university to study music as a course and have therefore become professionals in the field. Through the Music Camp also, most congregations in Nigeria can now boast of instrumentalists as well as choristers who sing to the delight of all.
The 2024 annual Music Camp started on Monday29th July, 2024 with children trooping in in their large numbers despite the fuel scarcity and the resultant hike in the transport fares all over the country. Sounds of the recorders as well as trumpets and all over the central church premises in Ikeja, Lagos. This is already a testament to their readiness and enthusiasm to learn how to play their choice instruments, go back home and make their friends and families proud. One can therefore see them in their various groups according to their instruments such as the recorder, trumpets/the trombone, Piano, violin/Viola, the chelo etc and for eazy organization and coordination, they were grouped into beginners and the intermediate classes and conspicuously and professionally handled Apostle Oscar and his team of majorly professional music instructors.
Concert of one day extends to two
The music camp was climaxed by a concert during which the various classes and groups were to present what can be said to be their final project. the music campers were allowed to do all their presentation to the delight of the audience who were majorly members of their congregations, district ministers and friends who have come to cheer them up and show them love. The concert which was intended for just few hours extended into the second day. The joy of seeing their children play this various instruments so well even after learning for such a very short time is amazing and one cannot just but admire and continue to wish that the concert never stopped. Excited apostle Oscar and his team of panel of judges could be seen beaming with smiles of admiration as the young musicians entertain the audience with various classical pieces by notable composers such as G. F Handel, J.S Bach, Van Beethoven, J. Brahms and many more
At the end of the concert, excited Apostle Oscar and the other members of the panel who were majorly District Rectors and their instructors thanked the children and urged them to continue to practice and play their instruments in their various congregations.
With all these amazing performances especially from the brass and the strings, one already has an idea of how wonderful the golden jubilee will be as sounds and tunes of hymns and special anthem were also practiced for the visit of the District Apostle, Apostles and all the members.
The children however departed to their respective districts and congregations but with the assurance of meeting again in October where most of them (instrumentalists) have been selected to play alongside their senior for both the concert and the divine service.
