Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa, rich in culture and resources. The people are known for their resilience and faith, yet plagued with significant challenges. In recent times, most families have had to struggle with economic hardship, security concerns, and instability, and life for the average Nigerian is far from easy.
Despite this, the people remain hopeful, turning to faith for strength. In a time of uncertainty, the upcoming visit of Chief Apostle Jean Luc Schneider from February 28 to March 2, 2025, brings a moment of spiritual reflection and encouragement.
He will conduct a Festive Divine Service for the Departed, a significant divine service celebrated in the New Apostolic Church— usually on the first Sundays of March, July, and November. It is a time when members pray for the souls of the departed, seeking redemption and freedom for those who have passed on. The visit of the Chief Apostle is therefore not just an event, but a profound spiritual gathering in a country where faith remains a source of hope.
Freedom Park: A Symbol of Redemption
In preparation for the divine service, a musical concert will take place on Saturday, March 1, at Freedom Park in Lagos. The location itself carries deep meaning. Once known as Her Majesty’s Broad Street Prison, this site was a place of suffering and punishment during the colonial era. Today, it has been transformed into a historical and cultural landmark, representing freedom, transformation, and new beginnings.
It is a fitting location for a gathering that focuses on spiritual liberation. Just as Freedom Park stands as a testament to the triumph over physical bondage, the Service for the Departed represents the liberation of souls through divine grace. The concert will bring together solemn voices of worship, preparing hearts for the sacred service to follow.
A Gathering of Apostles
The Chief Apostle will not be coming alone. Accompanying him will be ministers and leaders from across Africa and Europe, demonstrating the global unity of the New Apostolic Church:
- District Apostle Michael Ehrich (South Germany)
- District Apostle Kububa Soko (Zambia)
- Lead Apostle Vincent Yedenou (Benin Republic)
- Lead Apostle Benjamin Saffo (Ghana)
- Lead Apostle Saa Marc Leno (Guinea Conakry)
- Lead Apostle Oscar Nwanza (Nigeria – Host)
- As well as all Apostles across Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Their presence highlights the shared mission of bringing hope to all believers.
Finding Strength in Faith and Fellowship
For many Nigerians, daily life is uncertain, but faith remains unwavering. The Service for the Departed is a time to extend love, prayer, and redemption beyond the physical world. It is an opportunity for believers to remember that God’s mercy is limitless, and even those who have passed on can find peace through intercession.
As the New Apostolic community in Nigeria prepares for this special visit, there is a sense of anticipation and joy. The coming days will be filled with worship, prayer, and fellowship —reminders that even in difficult times, faith offers a path from condemnation to freedom
